WHAT’S IN YOUR FOOD        COFFEE

We have been taking a closer look at what is in your food. For the most part you will find that as we go on this journey we will find many invaders into our foods that are harmful rather than helpful to you individual health and wellness.

We have looked at some of our breakfast staples so far. Today we will look at our coffee.

For the most part coffee is being discovered to be a rather healthy beverage. It is a natural, plant based food. It is usually grown in remote mountainous regions where the plants have access to cleaner air. It possesses numerous anti-oxidants and other good nutrition. The issues arise when we add other things like cream, sugar, caramel, and (God knows what else. I sure don’t) to the coffee and turn it into a dessert that are more calorie dense than cake.

One of the areas where we may have concerns about the coffee we drink, is in the processing. Drying, grinding preservation, etc. Instant coffee goes through a bit more processing, and in some cases the coffee is extended with additional substances. Just one more reason to read your labels, and don’t skip over words and abbreviations that you are not familiar with. They may be a camouflage.

HOW ABOUT THAT?

Green coffee bean (not aged to dryness) is being touted as a useful product for weight loss. Besides being available in all the supplements and weight loss portions, this is also available as a coffee enhancer.

One popular herb added to coffee by many companies is GANODERMA. This extract from the reishi mushroom, is touted to have many health giving properties, including preventing and helping to heal cancer. ( http://www.reishi.com/what-is-reishi.htm )

Since coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, second only to water, health experts have begun the trend to add herbs to coffee to make it more useful nutritionally.

There are several companies using ganoderma to enhance their coffee products . I think this is so brilliant, since you don’t have to remember to take another supplement, if you want to get the health benefits of ganoderma.  You have your morning coffee, or afternoon tea, a late night cup of hot chocolate, or any one of their other products and ganoderma is done.

Another company, which markets affordable natural nutritional supplements, went a step further and added more than one enhancer to their coffee.

Along with GANODERMA, they added two other well-known,  anti-oxidants rich fruit extracts, along, with a rare and exciting enhancement called YARCHA GUMBA. The story of how this herb is obtained is enough to make you want to appreciate how lucky you are to have it in your coffee.

Yarcha Gumba: Also known as Cordyceps Sinensis;  is one of the most valuable medicinal herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In TCM, this herb has an extensive history of use in the treatment of mental and physical exhaustion and is often used as a rejuvenator for increased energy while recovering from serious illness. It is also known to be used regularly in the treatment of patients with leukemia, heart, liver and kidney problems.

Additionally, it is known to strengthen the immune system and is used as a treatment against respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, cough and lung infections. It is believed to be highly effective against impotence (lack of libido) and is extensively used in China as an aphrodisiac. It is also known to relieve pain and is effective in the treatment of arthritis, spasms and cramps. It is believed that the herb is known to help reduce cholesterol levels in the body, in digestion and improves appetite.
