cereals are mostly made from grains.

cereals are mostly made from grains.

  • Most cereals are made from grain. Whether it is rice, corn, wheat, oats, or any combination of any of them. A grain is usually the basic ingredient.
  • Depending on what part of the globe your cereal is manufactured, it could be made from genetically modified grains.

In case you are not aware of what that means, the WHO says  “Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods derived from organisms whose genetic material (DNA) has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally.”

To put it simply, it is when geneticists and agri-scientists mess with the DNA of the seeds in an effort to morph them into a farmers dream. They are given built in instructions. Grow quickly. Yield more, and make sure the insects and worms don’t get to eat any. I call them Frankenstein foods. Read the rest of this entry

You know, some things perplex me more than they would most people. I am always trying to understand everything, and never taking too much as it is presented.

For example, I believe in the English language. With all its nuances, and deflections and old  Anglo-Saxon derivations, and hidden connotations, it usually comes down to meaning what it says. If you take it literally, orange-juice should refer to —juice from an orange. Right?

An orange is a tropical fruit that is bright orange in color. Has vitamin C among other nutrients. See foods with more Vitamin C than oranges.

Juice is a liquid extracted from  a part of some kind of vegetation. Hence the explanation of what is orange juice.

I am not much of an orange lover. I find an orange when I am baking something that calls for orange rind. But the few times that I have juiced an orange, (usually for someone else) I somehow never managed to capture, the color, the thickness, or the vibrancy that I see in bottles. The cow's milk debate

The cow’s milk debate

People consume food for various reasons. Sometimes, less consideration is given to what liquids we consume than what solid foods we eat. Consuming cow’s milk has been a tradition in many regions of the world, and it has been taken for granted that it is wholesome.

Isn’t it interesting that after a human baby is weaned the mother stops producing milk. The same thing happens to the cow, (in normal circumstances). But modern day producers manipulate it so that it can keep giving us milk which was intended to plump up a calf in a short time.

Here are some of the concerns raised by experts (researchers, scientists and medical reports) concerning this  “food staple” which we extract from cows boobs. Read the rest of this entry

The Cow’s Milk Debate – Part 1

“Think I will, Think I wont”

Is cow's milk all that it is "pumped out" to be?

Is cow’s milk all that it is “pumped out” to be?

We make decisions on what we do and do not eat for various reasons. Sometimes it is basically what we are used to (what our ancestors taught us). It may be based on an allergy. It may be because we want to lose or gain weight. Every now and again a fad comes along and we feel like jumping on the band wagon.

But sometimes we make conscious decisions based on newly gained information, or a bad experience of a loved one. I recently came to the conclusion which is basically an extension (……to zero) of a decision that is almost half a century old.

I have been hearing a lot recently about cow’s milk and the negative effects it may be having on human health and wellness. During that time, I have also been thinking and observing a lot regarding cow’s milk. Read the rest of this entry
