FLAXSEED OIL comes from a tree that originated in ancient Egypt and China thousands of years ago.

Flaxseed oil has many health benefits, including healthy skin.

Flaxseed oil has many health benefits, including healthy skin.

It was once the leading crops for cloth in Europe and North America. Historically, flaxseed oil was used mainly in Europe for inflammatory diseases (including heart conditions) and hormone related illnesses.

Now the seed is more recognized for heart health. Flaxseed oil softens skin, because of its abundance of essential fatty acids.

Flaxseed oil is an anti-inflammatory plant-based oil, and can be used to treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn and rosacea.

Flax is also called linseed. There is an industrial version of linseed oil (sold in hardware stores) that is not for consumption.

SEA-BUCKTHORN OIL: In spite of its name it does not come from the sea. The oil comes from a shrub, which bears berries, and the oil comes from the seeds of the fruit. Sea Buckthorn oil has a long history, and knowledge of its nutritional and healing effects, is widespread.

A WORD YOU SHOULD KNOW

I am sure you have heard the word resveratrol.

red wine can be a healthy indulgence

red wine can be a healthy indulgence

May be you even know that it is associated with red wine.  Can you explain what resveratrol is?

Hopefully you will be able to make a confident statement from now on.  Resveratrol  is a polyphenol that is found only in red wine. A polyphenol is a particular set of anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants are found in some form in most fruits and vegetables, and help to clean up free radicals in the body. It is like using lemon to clear up rust build up.

The foods richest in anti-oxidants are mostly the ones with dark red, blue and black colors.

Quercetin is another form of flavonoid found in red wine that is known to have tremendous health benefits. Read about it here.     http://www.naturalnews.com/029182_quercetin_health.html

It is believed that anti-oxidants prevent against, and help to prevent inflammation in the body. This allows your blood to flow more freely and improve circulation,  and can contribute to heart health and prevent against strokes and other circulatory diseases. FULVIA also improves heart function. Read the rest of this entry

WHAT’S IN YOUR FOOD…….ORANGE JUICE

WHATS IN YOUR FOOD…….ORANGE JUICE

You know, some things perplex me more than they would most people. I am always trying to understand everything, and never taking too much as it is presented.

For example, I believe in the English language. With all its nuances, and deflections and old  Anglo-Saxon derivations, and hidden connotations, it usually comes down to meaning what it says. If you take it literally, orange-juice should refer to —juice from an orange. Right?

IS IT REALLY?

An orange is a tropical fruit that is bright orange in color. Has vitamin C among other nutrients. See foods with more Vitamin C than oranges.

Juice is a liquid extracted from  a part of some kind of vegetation. Hence the explanation of what is orange juice.

I am not much of an orange lover. I find an orange when I am baking something that calls for orange rind. But the few times that I have juiced an orange, (usually for someone else) I somehow never managed to capture, the color, the thickness, or the vibrancy that I see in bottles. ADD A GREEN SMOOTHIE TO YOUR ROUTINE

Daily gift of life.

Daily gift of life.

GREENS ARE A LIFE FORCE

Every life cycle begins with plant life. Plants have the unique ability to use the energy from the sun to create nutrition and life force. It therefore follows, that including green plants in your diet would be a good choice for providing a more direct source of vital nutrients.

As a young person, I used to tell myself silly things like. Only goats eat leaves. At that time, I had no understanding of the real benefits of food, and how important nutrients are to the daily functioning of our organs, hormones and the prevention of diseases and ailments.

Maybe wisdom comes with age, maybe it is instilled by God for a particular purpose. Perhaps, one just gets tired of not being well and seeks to make their body better. There was a time when the greenest thing I ate was avocado. Cucumber salad was a regular part of our diet, but we peeled the skin off. We had no idea that we were feeding the pigs and the sheep, the most nutritious part of the cucumber

NUTRITIONAL CONTENT

Dark leafy greens such as KALE AND SPINACH, provide a wealth of HEALTH BENEFITS, and more nutrients than most people are aware of. Leafy greens such as spinach, kale, parsley and other “greens” abound with vitamins and minerals. The list is so extensive and widely known, that I will let you look them up on your own.

We are aware of the importance of vitamins, but it is sometimes challenging to include them in our diet on a daily basis. It is necessary to consume water soluble vitamins daily since they cannot be stored in the body. Vitamins C and most B vitamins are water soluble, and will be eliminated once they are not used. Other vitamins are fat soluble and can therefore be stored in fat and the liver, and released when needed.   These include vitamin A, D, E, K.  Some minerals that are plentiful in dark leafy greens include calcium, potassium, copper manganese and iron.
