This is Part One of a Two-Part Article.

Some time ago, I wrote an article on the dangers to our health, of many beauty products, because of the chemicals used to make them.

Healthy oils make healthy skin

Today I want to talk about some alternatives which are not only safe and effective, but may even benefit your overall health with consistent use for skin care. Plant-based oils, are gaining in acceptance in the Western world, even though many of them have been used for millenniums elsewhere.

Natural oils have been used for centuries, for skin and hair care. Natural oils are safe and plant based, so the chances of damaging your skin or your body are minimal. This anti-aging skin serum, contain extracts from twelve powerful super foods.

Also minimal is the amount you have to use, so an investment will take you a long way.

Some of the natural plant-based oils which have been used for thousands of years in various locations around the world, and are increasing in popularity are:-

Argan oil comes from the nut of a tree which is native to Morocco. It has been used since ancient times for food, cosmetic and medicinal purposes.

Real argan oil is slightly expensive. Beware of cheaper versions, which, more than likely, have been stretched.

Argan oil is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids.

Argan oil is good to lighten scars and discoloration along with the other benefits from   vitamins and acids.

  • Coconut oil comes from the nut of a tropical and sub-tropical palm.

This oil has been used for nutrition, as well as cosmetic purposes, and is gaining popularity for   its nutritional and healing effects.

It is good for healing the skin from sunburns, and dry skin.  Lauric acid in coconut oil makes it effective for a number of healing and soothing skin issues.

Make sure you get organic, cold pressed coconut oil as it retains most of its nutrients and is therefore more beneficial than the cooked version.

Acai oil has regenerative nutritional benefits.

Acai oil has regenerative nutritional benefits.

Acai oil comes from the seeds of the acai berry; that super healing super food. Like the fruit, the oil contains numerous anti-oxidants.

It is therefore great for (among other things) cleansing the skin of free radicals, therefore preventing oxidation and  the premature aging of skin.

This ant-aging serum contains ACAI extract, as well as extracts from eleven other powerful super fruits,

  • jojoba oil comes from the seeds of the plant

Jojoba  oil  prevents the skin from losing its natural moisture.  It can be used as a cleanser, massage oil, and bath oil, as it helps to maintain subtleness and glow to the skin.

Jojoba oil is also anti-bacterial, and has been used by Native Americans for treating infections for many generations.

Because it is anti-inflammatory it is effective in treating acne, eczema, and other skin conditions.

A little goes a long way, so even though it may be pricey, it is well worth it. Don’t fall for cheaper versions, because they may have fillers.

Pomegranate oil. If you have heard of the benefits of pomegranates, pomegranate   seed oil is like a concentration of them.

It is anti-oxidant rich and helps to fight oxidation to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

It firms the skin, improves skin texture, fights free radicals, and prevents premature aging of the skin.

Pomegranate seed oil also helps to regenerate skin cells make the skin look younger.

Avocado oil firms the skin, and minimizes pores without clogging them.

  •  It is rich in vitamins, fatty acids, and numerous anti-oxidants, which makes it excellent for eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions.
  •  Avocado oil also has compounds which increases collagen production in the skin, making it appear more youthful.

Avocado oil is rich in Vitamins, especially Vitamin E.  It is like going to the source for          your Vitamin E lotion, except that it does not come packing unwanted chemicals and      preservatives.

It heals dry skin and is excellent as a facial treatment.

Avocado oil has been used in patented treatments for dermatitis and arthritis because of its anti-inflammatory      properties.

There are several other individual benefits of each plant-based oil. It is impractical to go into in more detail here. Hopefully, I have piqued your interest enough to investigate further, or even try one or two.

For example, my grand-mother, (when I was a child), used coconut oil to stop headaches. It was our body oil, hair oil, and it cleared the scars after a cut healed.

Castor oil was for tummy aches, arthritis pains, headaches, and constipation. I can still picture the “oil leaf” that we fetched from the “ground” to band her head when it hurt. I found out only recently, that it was in fact a plant from which castor oil is extracted.

In my next article, I will look at a few more plant-based oils and how they are effective and safe skin care oils, as well as give some guidelines on which oils to use for specific skin conditions.
