Ten Things About Me……. Barbados my Island Home.

I just read a really cute blog post from another participant in the 30 day blogging Challenge.

We are on Day 28 of a 30 day challenge, and there is lots of material to write about, but I thought I would follow Evey’s lead, (since she followed another fellow blogger), and do this one.  http://iwilldoit2.com/2013/25-things-about-me/

The others did 25 interesting things, but I think I’ll stop at 10.

1.       Where were you born?

I was born, and live most of my life on the beautiful island of Barbados. It is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands. That means that when the hurricanes come across the Atlantic-ocean, it gets to us first.

Barbados is the most easterly Caribbean island.

Barbados is the most easterly Caribbean island.

The good news is that because the island is so small (166 square miles) the storm usually passes to the north or south. Also, because there is no land mass between the African West coast and Barbados, the storms are usually just building strength when they reach us.

Here is an interesting statistic. Every storm that has devastated the Caribbean, US gulf Coast and East coast had to pass Barbados, but the last real hit we suffered was back in 1955.

Do not despise small beginnings. "Penny Matrix"

Do not despise small beginnings. “Penny Matrix”

Or you may have heard, small acorns grow into huge oak trees.

Today, I want to draw your attention to an opportunity that requires very little input, but has the potential to grow into something big.

For two basic reasons: Have you ever heard the saying, “Pennies make quarters, and quarters make dollars”?

The basic concept is that consistent effort adds up.

The second reason is that the world of technology continues to evolve and there is nothing we can do to stop it. So we may as well go with the flow.

The evolution of e-books and e-book readers started back in the 1970”s

Seems like a long time, Right?

E-BOOK READERS gained attention with the popularity of the Kindle.  As time went on, and more and more people opted for the convenience of downloading a book, rather than making that trip to the library or the bookstore, it seems that anyone with an interest got in the act. New worlds to conquer

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” ― Helen Keller

Teamwork is good for MLM

Teamwork is good for MLM

Have you ever moved into a new neighborhood, and was feeling a bit apprehensive about being in a strange place? Perhaps you were not feeling too optimistic about getting to learn the ins and outs of what is going on, in that particular corner of the world? Then some-one shows up with a cake (maybe not…that may be a movie ideal). Maybe you just encounter someone, or they come over to say hello, and after the first conversation, your level of comfort rises. Just by making a connection, and knowing that there is someone you can go to with your question, or maybe just someone to introduce you to the rest of the neighbors, made you feel like you can settle in.

Or have you ever started a new job, and had a few butterflies in your stomach, while waiting to hear what is expected of you. You look around to see how others are acting, and what they do and do not do, and of course you keep your ears open, in an effort to acclimatize yourself with your new surroundings. Then someone,(or maybe several people) stop by to say hello and welcome you to the office. Maybe someone was gracious enough to whisper a few sentences of vital information that Perhaps someone invites you to sit at their table in the lunchroom, or invites you to join them at their favorite deli or restaurant for lunch. peas and beansA few days ago, I was talking to someone about my blogging. The question was asked “What are you writing about today?”  On hearing my response, My good friend continued:” Do you ever write about anything positive?”  You know that’s a good friend, who would not hesitate to point out a flaw, even one that bore the potential to be perceived  as critical.

But I was Oh so grateful for the pointer, because once I thought about it, I began to realize that my points of view were bordering on being negative. I ws automatically assuming that it was more crucial to point out what we are doing wrong, that is doing damage to our health.  We can also reverse damage by supplementing with the right nutrients.

It got me to thinking, that I should devote more time to highlighting some of the easy and positive changes we can make to enhance our efforts to attain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Read the rest of this entry

food-label. Lots of strange words.

food-label. Lots of strange words.

A few years ago, I Figured out that I was gluten intolerant and started on a gluten free diet (or so I thought).

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that once I didn’t bake with flour, ate quinoa instead of rice, and learned that almost any bean can be made into a four, that it will be well.

After all the adjusting, my symptoms persisted. It was not before long that I discovered the vastness of my mistakes, by not reading food labels carefully.

I could no longer take anything for granted.  I started paying more attention , and especially  by reading labels.

Not only did I learn how widespread the use of wheat and corn is, in the processed food industry, I learned some things that the average person probably never would consider, in regards to processed foods and the ingredients they contain. I find it to be so disturbing, and at the same time fascinating, that I thought I would share some of them with you. Read the rest of this entry
