Skin care products. Do you know what's in them?

Skin care products. Do you know what’s in them?

So you wake up in the morning. You have to get dressed and out to work. Or you have a date and you want to look and smell your best. You shampoo your hair. Or if you are African descent, you probably went to the hair dresser the day or weekend before. You use some kind of shampoo, some kind of conditioner, some kind of soap. You applied some kind of deodorant, some kind of hand cream, some kind of perfume. If you are female, you probably used some kind of face powder, lipstick, eye brow pencil, maybe mascara. And the list goes on. All these SKIN CARE PRODUCTS are used to enhance our beauty, but can they be hindering your efforts to live a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

VITAMIN POWER – VITAMIN C

Vitamin-c-foods

So we know that our food is supposed to contain vital nutrients. Vitamins and minerals among them. Let us consider  for a few minutes what we may be overlooking in our daily routine  Vitamin Power – Vitamin C.

Some time in the early 1900’s researchers and scientists started the discovery of vitamins. As time progressed, more and more of these hidden essentials in NATURAL foods were isolated and named. They starting naming them. A B C  etc. Many different strains of B vitamins, were detected and  they started assigning numbers B1, B2, etc (not very creative, but practical)

Perhaps the vitamin most thought of is Vitamin C.  Next to vitamin C in the dictionary of our minds we imagine an orange. That is because it is the fruit more readily identified as high in Vitamin C. However; there are at least five or six other natural foods that have a higher Vitamin C concentration than oranges. Read the rest of this entry

HEALTHY COFFEE

HEALTHY COFFEE IS HERE TO STAY.

It is estimated that about four out of every five North Americans drink coffee on a daily basis. Coffee is the world’s second largest-traded commodity after oil. Coffee drinking has a history that is centuries old. Now we can have HEALTHY COFFEE.

HEALTHY COFFEE

Not too long ago, many persons thought they were drinking coffee as a stimulant. Others for the aroma, and still others for the taste. It woke you up in the morning, gave you a boost at mid- morning, and the extra boost to get you through from lunch to the end of the day.

Coffee was what was once used to carry the exotic flavors in the creamers. Even as an excuse for the whipped topping, and other sweet additives you craved, (but did not want to acknowledge mentally).

For instance, you didn’t have to tell yourself, “I had caramel today” ….”I just had a cup of coffee” is less guilt provoking.  Or, you forget that the mocha and the latte coffee drinks may have had some chocolate in it. The fact is that coffee is the most loved beverage in many countries in the world, and over time, we found ways to make it more inviting. At the top of the list of coffee drinking countries, are USA, France and Germany. Read the rest of this entry

CELIAC DISEASE AWARENESS

CELIAC DISEASE

CELIAC DISEASE

Since this month is being recognized as celiac disease awareness month, I thought I would highlight and hopefully, heighten the awareness of CELIAC DISEASE.

Because there is lots of information out there on gluten intolerance, gluten sensitivity and CELIAC DISEASE, it is not my intention here to regurgitate a bunch of facts and figures for you. Instead I will attempt to relate my personal journey to being aware of CELIAC DISEASE, and the horror that it is to the human body.

The first thing that we need to be aware of is that Gluten intolerance is not the same thing as celiac disease. Gluten Intolerance simply means that your body cannot tolerate GLUTEN, and it reacts in countless negative ways. Gluten is the protein found in grains and is the gluey sticky substance that gives wheat its pliability. One of the ways the body reacts is to cause disturbances in the intestinal system, causing a ripple effect of symptoms, disorders and results. Celiac disease is therefore an autoimmune digestive disorder usually caused by ingesting GLUTEN. Read the rest of this entry

Also a par of your overall Health and Wellness

Also serious Health concern

It stands to reason that everything that involves the body eventually affects our Health and Wellness. Both positive actions and negative actions will affect us accordingly. In order to attain the best health possible, it is necessary to practice good health habits on a regular and continuous basis. Eating healthy once or twice a week will definitely not be as beneficial to our health as doing so on a regular basis.(with the occasional indulgence.)

One of the things which we probably do not pay as much attention to, as we should, is our sleep habits.

I always say that God knows why He made day and night. I believe He knew that sleep is so essential to our Good health that he made it easy for us to do nothing for almost half the day, but sleep. But like many other things mankind got too smart for their own good and made ways and options to allow us to not sleep as we should.

Babies sleep around sixteen hours a day.  As they grow older, the number of hours, required to sleep for optimum health and functioning, decrease considerably. As children mature into teenagers, they require more sleep. This may be due to the various processes of growth and maturity going on inside the body, that demands more down time. Healthy Thoughts – Healthy Actions

Little Healthy Actions add up to improved body functioning.

Little Healthy Actions add up to improved body functioning.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

In an effort to implement as many Healthy Actions as I can, I am always doing research online and trying to understand my body and how it functions and what I can do to make it work better and prevent illness. My favorite people to learn from are medical doctors who also incorporate natural healing methods, and preventative techniques. Along with ancient techniques such as acupuncture, massage and etc. which collectively encourage healthy Habits.

Recently I’ve been discovering much about hormones and the glands that produce them.  What a great impact they have on our bodies and how important they are!!  Understanding the various organs and what is required for them to function optimally, and the various systems in place that keeps everything moving, is truly enlightening.

EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER

While meditating on the fact that there is so much we can do to improve our health if we understood it just a little bit, I remembered an incident that bore out my thoughts. A long time ago,( Over thirty years ) when I bought my first car, I went to the dealer to collect the car. Most females would have had someone accompany them, but I went alone. The salesman spent some time showing me certain things about the car. He went under the hood and showed me how to top up the fluids and so on. He also demonstrated what he thought I needed to know on the dashboard and the controls. So when he came to (what I later discovered was) the internal heating system, he said, “don’t worry about that. It doesn’t work.” I very uncharacteristically did not ask any questions about it. So several months later when I started feeling this intense heat at my feet, as I was driving, I had no idea where it was coming from. I imagined all kinds of reasons. I talked to people about what could be the problem, and continued to be perplexed as I drove around with heat on my feet in eighty to ninety degree weather, promising to take the car to a mechanic to figure it out.
